A man and his wife were always wishing for good fortune. One night, a fairy appeared and said, "You may have three wishes."

The next morning, the wife went to a neighbor's house for bread. Seeing a delicious pudding there, she returned home and exclaimed, "I wish I had a pudding like that!" Forgetting the fairy's gift, she was astonished to find one appear beside her.

"Silly!" cried the man. "You've wasted a wish, and now we only have a pudding. I wish it were stuck to your nose!"

Immediately, the pudding jumped up and fastened itself to her nose. "Silly yourself!" she shouted. "You've wasted another. We have only one wish left."

"What shall we wish for?" asked the man. "We must wish this pudding off," said the woman. "I can't bear it on my nose."

So they wished the pudding away, and it vanished. They had used their three wishes but were no better off than before the fairy's visit.
