The Ugly Girl Imitates the Frown | 丑女效颦

点击查看中英对照

Xi Shi, a renowned beauty, had a pain in her bosom and thus wore a frown when she went out. An ugly girl living nearby saw her and thought she looked exceptionally beautiful. Upon returning home, the girl imitated Xi Shi by clutching her own bosom and frowning.

When a wealthy man in the neighborhood saw the ugly girl, he shut his doors tightly and stayed inside. When a poor man saw her, he took his wife and children and gave her a wide berth.

She only knew that Xi Shi's frown was beautiful but did not understand why it was so.
