An art critic was known for his severe and meticulous critiques.
While commenting on paintings in a gallery, he pointed at one and said: "This piece shows a marked lack of technique and understanding. Look! The trees lack form, and the grass has no roots. Here, the artist attempted to draw a fly to catch the public's eye. I wouldn't disapprove if he had drawn it well and made it look like a fly. But this fly resembles a lump of mud and lacks any character of a fly."
As the critic continued his rambling critique, the fly on the painting suddenly spread its wings and flew away.
