It was a fine day. The trees were green, and the flowers were red and yellow. A white lamb was playing in the fields. Suddenly, a wolf came and caught it. The wolf wanted to eat the lamb.
The lamb said, "I'm too thin now. Please come back to eat me another time."
The wolf asked, "What's your name? How can I find you next time?"
The lamb replied, "My name is Clever. When you come back, just call out, 'Clever, Clever, come to me! I'm coming to eat you!' Then you'll find me."
"Alright," said the wolf. "Don't forget. I'm going to eat you next time."
"See you," said the lamb, and it ran away.
A few days later, the wolf returned. "Clever, where are you? Clever, Clever, come to me! I'm coming to eat you!" he called.
The lamb answered from inside the sheep-pen, "I'm in the sheep-pen. How can you eat me here? My name is 'Clever'. If I hadn't been clever last time, I couldn't have escaped. You might have eaten me then. But now, you'll have to go home hungry. Goodbye!"
