While on an outing, Marquis Wen of Wei saw a farmer walking with a bundle of firewood on his back, wearing his fur-lined jacket inside out.
He asked the farmer, "Why are you wearing your jacket inside out while carrying that wood?"
The farmer replied, "I cherish the fur of this jacket and fear the bundle might abrade it."
"Don't you know," Marquis Wen asked in surprise, "that if the leather is damaged, the fur cannot survive?"
