A young couple rode a motorcycle through the night. The girl, feeling afraid, repeatedly asked the boy to slow down.
"Slow down a little. I'm scared."
"No, it's so fun," he replied.
"Please... it's so scary."
"Then say that you love me."
"Fine. I love you. Can you slow down now?"
"Give me a big hug."
After she hugged him, she asked again, "Now can you slow down?"
Instead, he said, "Can you take off my helmet and put it on? It's uncomfortable and bothers me while I drive."
The next day, a newspaper reported a fatal motorcycle accident. The brakes had failed, causing the crash into a building. One rider died; the other survived.
The boy had known the brakes were broken. To spare the girl from fear, he kept it secret. In his final moments, he heard her say "I love you," felt her embrace, and ensured her survival by giving her his helmet.
Sometimes, in the midst of ordinary life, love writes a fairy tale.
