A Question of Ugliness | 谁更丑

点击查看中英对照

Abraham Lincoln, the President of the United States, was aware that he was not considered handsome.

One day, while walking down the street, Lincoln was confronted by an unattractive man holding a pistol. The man aimed the weapon directly at Lincoln's nose. Though startled, Lincoln maintained his composure and asked, "What do you want, sir?"

"I made a promise to myself," the man declared. "If I ever find a man uglier than I am, I will kill him."

Lincoln studied the man's face intently and then replied earnestly, "Then please take aim at me, sir. If I were uglier than you, I would not wish to live."
