Marquis Lu Raises a Bird | 鲁侯养鸟

点击查看中英对照

Once upon a time, a sea bird landed in the suburbs of the capital of the state of Lu.

Marquis Lu was delighted. He brought the bird to the ancestral temple, offered it wine, and played the elegant "Jiushao" music for it. To please the bird further, he served it a lavish feast of beef, mutton, and pork. However, the bird appeared doleful, groggy, and dizzy. It dared not eat any meat or drink any wine. In less than three days, the bird died.

Marquis Lu fed the bird the same way he fed himself, not the way one should feed a bird.
