A first-grade teacher tells her class she is a New England Patriots fan and asks who else is. Not knowing what that means but eager to please, nearly all the students raise their hands.
One girl, Kelly, does not. The teacher asks why she chose to be different. "Because I'm not a Patriots fan," Kelly says.
"Then what are you?" the teacher asks.
"I'm a New York Giants fan," the girl replies proudly.
When asked why, Kelly explains, "My mom and dad are Giants fans, so I am too."
"That's not a good reason," the teacher retorts. "What if your mom was foolish and your dad was unwise? What would you be then?"
Kelly smiles and answers, "Then I'd be a Patriots fan."
