Many ages had passed since the Phoenix was last seen in the world. At last, it appeared again. Immediately, all kinds of animals, both birds and beasts, flocked around it.
Astonished by its beauty, they stared in admiration and broke out in great praise. However, before long, the wisest and most prudent among them began to look upon it with an eye of compassion. They sighed, "O unhappy Phoenix! Fate has been hard on him. He has neither mate nor friend. He will never know the pleasure of loving or of being loved."
