Once upon a time, a little girl lived with her parents in a cottage at the edge of a forest. Her father was a woodcutter. In the middle of the forest lived her grandmother, who loved her dearly. One day, the grandmother made the girl a beautiful red cloak with a matching hood. The girl loved it so much she wore it always, earning her the name Little Red Riding Hood.
One day, Red Riding Hood's mother asked her to take a basket with cake and butter to her sick grandmother. On the path through the forest, she met a wolf. The wolf, pretending to be friendly, learned where she was going. He then tricked her, suggesting a race to her grandmother's house, and ran ahead using secret shortcuts.
The wolf reached the cottage first. He pretended to be Red Riding Hood, tricked the grandmother into letting him in, and gobbled her up. He then put on her nightclothes and got into bed.
When Red Riding Hood arrived, she noticed something strange about her "grandmother."
"Grandmother, what big eyes you have!"
"All the better to see you with, my dear."
"Grandmother, what big teeth you have!"
"All the better to EAT you with!"
The wolf then jumped out of bed. Red Riding Hood screamed and ran outside, with the wolf chasing her. Her father, the woodcutter, heard her screams. He rushed over with his axe, saved his daughter, and killed the wolf with one blow. To their surprise, the grandmother was found safe inside the wolf! They all returned to the cottage, shared the cake, and lived happily ever after, with Red Riding Hood promising never to walk in the forest alone again.
