Showing Off Axe Skills Before Lu Ban | 班门弄斧

点击查看中英对照

Lu Ban was a consummate carpenter in ancient China. Legend has it that he once carved a wooden phoenix so lifelike that it flew for three days. Therefore, it was considered the height of folly to display one's skill with an axe in front of him.

This idiom excoriates those who show off their slight accomplishments in front of true experts.
