A man from the state of Qi was skilled at judging dogs. He spent a whole year selecting an excellent dog for his neighbor.
Later, the neighbor grew concerned because the dog never caught mice. He told this to the man who had chosen the dog. The man from Qi explained, "This dog is meant to hunt game like bucks, deer, and wild boars. Mice are not its target. If you insist on making it catch mice, simply bind its hind legs, and it will catch them."
The neighbor followed the advice, and the dog indeed began catching mice.
