An ant, going to a river to drink, fell in and was carried away by the current. A dove, seeing the ant's plight, took pity and threw a small branch into the river. The ant climbed onto the branch and safely reached the shore.
Later, the ant saw a man aiming a fowling-piece at the same dove. The ant quickly stung the man sharply on the foot. The sudden pain caused the man to miss his shot, and thus the dove's life was saved.
