In the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589 AD), there lived an expert archer named Zhangsun Sheng.

One day, while hunting with a friend, they spotted two vultures fighting over a piece of meat high in the sky. His friend handed him two arrows and challenged, "Can you shoot down both vultures?"

To his friend's amazement, Zhangsun Sheng brought down both birds with a single, well-aimed arrow.

This story is the origin of the idiom "one arrow, two vultures," which means to achieve two goals with one action.
