Yu Shou Burns His Books | 玉寿焚书

点击查看中英对照

Once, while traveling to handle some affairs, Yu Shou encountered Xu Feng on the road.

Yu Shou told Xu Feng that he had brought many books with him. He could consult them at any time, which made him feel well-prepared for any problems that might arise.

Xu Feng replied, "Actions are taken by people, and different times call for different measures. A wise man never acts rigidly. Books merely record the experiences of people from the past; they do not tell you what you should do now. So why burden yourself by carrying all these books to handle your affairs?"

Upon hearing this, Yu Shou found Xu Feng's words convincing. He then burned all the books he had brought with him on the spot. He was overjoyed by the sense of liberation and the truth he had perceived.
