Jack was a first-year history student who failed his exams and faced expulsion. His father pleaded with the professor for another chance.
"He's a good boy," said Jack's father. "If you let him pass this time, I'm sure he'll improve greatly next year and pass his exams with flying colors."
"Impossible," the professor replied curtly. "Last month, I asked him when Napoleon died, and he didn't know!"
"Please, sir, give him another chance," Jack's father implored. "You see, we don't subscribe to any newspapers at home, so none of us even knew Napoleon was ill."
