A fierce battle raged during the First World War. Guns thundered, and shells and bullets flew everywhere. After enduring this for an hour, one soldier decided the fighting had become too dangerous. He left the front line and began retreating from the battle.
After walking for an hour, he saw an officer approaching. The officer stopped him and demanded, "Where are you going?"
"I'm trying to get as far away as possible from the battle behind us, sir," the soldier replied.
"Do you know who I am?" the officer said angrily. "I'm your commanding officer."
The soldier was astonished and exclaimed, "My God, I didn't know I was so far back already!"
