The centipede waits by the earthworm's hole, hoping to eat it when an opportunity arises.
Hiding in its burrow, the earthworm suddenly sticks out its head and breaks off one of the centipede's legs while it is off guard. Enraged, the centipede tries to force its way into the hole. However, the entrance is too narrow. Not only does it fail to enter, but the earthworm seizes another leg and breaks it off.
Unable to retaliate yet unwilling to leave, the centipede has no choice but to wait outside. The earthworm repeats its tactic, breaking off the centipede's legs one by one. Before long, the so-called "hundred-legged" creature has no legs left at all.
Though not dead, the legless centipede can no longer move. It can do nothing but watch helplessly as the earthworm consumes its body.
