The Tale of the Tomato | 番茄的故事

点击查看中英对照

Tomatoes were first cultivated in Central and South America and remained unknown to the rest of the world until the 16th century.

Initially, many Europeans refused to eat tomatoes, believing the fruit to be dangerous.

Tomatoes became common in the United States in the 1820s. One famous story tells of a man named Robert Johnson who publicly ate tomatoes. The townspeople gathered, expecting to see him die. When he survived, they realized tomatoes were safe and began to eat them.
