A little boy invited his mother to attend his elementary school's first parent-teacher conference. To his dismay, she agreed. He was embarrassed by her appearance, as this would be the first time his classmates and teacher met her. Although she was beautiful, a severe scar covered nearly the entire right side of her face. The boy never wanted to discuss how she got it.
At the conference, others were impressed by his mother's kindness and natural beauty, but the boy remained embarrassed and hid. However, he moved within earshot of a conversation between his mother and his teacher.
"How did you get the scar on your face?" the teacher asked.
The mother replied, "When my son was a baby, he was in a room that caught fire. Everyone was too afraid to enter because the fire was out of control, so I went in. As I ran toward his crib, I saw a beam falling. I threw myself over him to protect him. I was knocked unconscious, but fortunately, a fireman saved us both." She touched her face. "This scar is permanent, but to this day, I have never regretted what I did."
Hearing this, the boy ran to his mother with tears in his eyes. He hugged her, overwhelmed by the sacrifice she had made for him. For the rest of the day, he held her hand tightly.
