Dine East, Sleep West | 东食西宿

In ancient times, a girl in the State of Qi reached marriageable age. Two families sent betrothal gifts to propose marriage.

The family to the east was wealthy, but their son was short and ugly. The family to the west was poor, but their son was handsome and talented.

The girl's parents debated the matter but couldn't decide. They called the girl and asked her to choose.

Seeing his daughter lower her head, blushing shyly, the father said, "If you're too shy to speak, show us your choice by exposing an arm. Expose your right arm for the east family's son, or your left arm for the west family's son."

After pondering for a moment, the girl silently exposed both arms.

"What does this mean?" her parents asked in surprise.

"I..." the girl said bashfully, "I wish to dine in the east house and sleep in the west house."
