An army general telephoned his unit at another location to speak with someone.
"Hello!" he said.
A soldier, perhaps a sergeant, answered the phone. He did not recognize the voice of the high-ranking commander.
"Hello! Are you okay? What's up? We should go out drinking again sometime," the soldier said casually.
Enraged, the general shouted at the top of his voice, "Do you know who you are talking to? Shut up!"
There was a long silence on the other end of the line. Then, the soldier asked, "Who is this? Who's speaking?"
"I am the General, the Commander-in-Chief of your unit," the general declared.
An even longer pause followed. Then the voice on the other end asked, "Do you know who you're talking to?"
The general replied, "No. Who are you?"
The soldier said, "Oh, I'm very lucky you don't! Goodbye!"
