I have frequented the same chat line for over three years and made wonderful online friendships. However, I grew bored with typical chat and the Internet altogether, so I decided to take a break.
After about a week offline, I returned late one night to check my mail. There was an email from a lady friend I'd met in chat. She went on about a man who had recently entered the room, claiming he was the "male incarnate" of me. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit of a character with a warped sense of humor. Finding someone who isn't instantly annoyed is a chore, let alone a man who shares the same traits. I dismissed the email and went about my business.
Later that night, I wandered online and came across an entertaining photo gallery. Clicking through, I stumbled upon one gentleman's photo and was stunned. After about ten minutes, I finally looked away and ventured into chat. There, I found the woman who had emailed me. She insisted, "You just have to meet him," ranting about how alike we were. I laughed, thinking it amusing, but she pressed, "No, I'm serious! You have to talk to him." I agreed to try later and left quickly, only to find myself staring again at that anonymous photo.
About four hours later, I returned to chat. A few friends were discussing daily events when, suddenly, a new name entered, rambling about being the "presentment of madness." I quickly spoke up, laughing, and told the stranger that title was already mine. He was silent for a moment, then sent me a whisper: "So YOU are the woman I've heard so much about." I replied, "I see my reputation precedes me." It was then I noticed his sidebar photo (the chat room had an option to post photos). I almost fell from my chair when I realized I was talking to the man in the photo—the same one I'd found earlier. After several hours whispering, we opted to enter a personal chat room. We found each other fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed our conversation.
Since then, our relationship has grown tremendously. We've even admitted our love to each other. We both agree it seems crazy—the sort of thing you read about in a book, hardly real. Neither of us was looking when fate led us together; neither needed love. In fact, neither believed in love, especially online love, before we met. Yet, we both desperately want to be together, to learn, love, and experience what this offers. It's simply amazing. So much for not seeking love.
It felt like we were two long-lost lovers reunited after a long journey. He put it best when he said:
"Life is full of shit... lots of it. And there are many times when you may feel stuck or bored, and it seems nothing holds your interest or doesn't piss you off. Well, there is such a thing as true love. It's there, it's indescribable, and few are blessed with it. We are one of the lucky couples."
Truly, the luckiest man and woman ever.
