Ji Chang learned archery from Fei Wei. Instead of teaching specific techniques, Fei Wei first instructed Ji Chang to practice staring at a target without blinking.
Ji Chang dedicated two years to this task, achieving such control that he wouldn't flinch even if an awl was thrust towards the corner of his eye. Next, Fei Wei tasked him with improving his eyesight—to make distant, tiny objects appear as large and clear as if they were nearby.
Ji Chang practiced diligently for another three years. Eventually, a louse hanging by the window seemed as large as a cart wheel to him. He drew his bow and easily split the louse with an arrow. Upon learning of this success, Fei Wei was extremely satisfied with his student.
