A year later, the artisan told the king, "I can not only build boats but also sail them skillfully." Pleased to hear this, the king appointed him as a boatman. During a war between the states of Wu and Yue, the boat he was sailing sank in Lake Tai, and he drowned. When the news spread throughout the country, all the people of Yue felt profound sorrow for his loss.
