A freedom fighter, traveling through the mountains, spent a night in a caravan. Inside, he saw a beautiful parrot in a golden cage, ceaselessly crying, "Freedom! Freedom!" Its call echoed through the valleys.
The man was moved. He thought, "I've never seen a parrot so consumed by the desire for freedom." That night, while the owner slept, he quietly opened the cage door and whispered to the parrot, "Now, get out."
To his surprise, the parrot clung tightly to the cage bars. The man urged it, "Have you forgotten freedom? The door is open! The whole sky is yours!" But the parrot clung even harder.
"Are you mad?" the man exclaimed. He tried to pull the parrot out, but it pecked at his hand fiercely, all the while shrieking, "Freedom! Freedom!" Undeterred, the stubborn freedom fighter finally yanked the parrot free and flung it into the open sky. Though wounded, he felt immense satisfaction for liberating a soul and went to sleep content.
In the morning, he awoke to the familiar cry: "Freedom! Freedom!" He expected to see the parrot perched on a tree or rock. But when he looked, the parrot was back inside its golden cage. The door remained wide open.
