A farmer's boy went looking for snails. When he had gathered a handful, he built a fire to roast them for his meal. As the fire grew hot, the snails, feeling the heat, retreated into their shells with the hissing sound they always make. Hearing the noise, the boy exclaimed, "You foolish creatures! How can you find the heart to whistle while your houses are burning?"
