One day in Alabama, a man heard a strange noise coming from one of his trees. He went to investigate and found a large gorilla moving around in the treetop, trying to get comfortable.
"How on earth am I going to get this gorilla out of my tree?" he wondered. "There aren't any gorilla catchers in Alabama, are there?"
He checked the phone book under "Animal Control" and, to his surprise, found a listing for a gorilla catcher. He called the number, and the catcher promised to arrive in ten minutes.
The gorilla catcher arrived in a big truck. In the back were a toolbox, a very large dog named Clyde sitting on the toolbox, and a large cage behind it. The catcher got out, shook hands with the man, and assessed the situation. After looking at the gorilla, he walked back to his truck, lifted old Clyde down, and retrieved a gun. He placed the gun on the ground next to Clyde.
"Here's the plan," the catcher explained. "I'm gonna climb this tree and knock the gorilla out. When it hits the ground, old Clyde here's gonna bite him and hold on until I can get down and put it in the cage. Any questions?"
The man had none, so the catcher began climbing. When he was about halfway up, the man noticed the shotgun next to Clyde.
"Hey, what's the gun for?" he called out.
The gorilla catcher replied, "Oh, that's in case the gorilla knocks me out of the tree. I want you to shoot old Clyde before I hit the ground."
