One of the guests turned to a man beside him to criticize the performance of the woman who was entertaining them.
"What a terrible voice! Do you know who she is?"
"Yes," the man replied. "She is my wife."
"Oh, I beg your pardon. Of course, it's not her voice, really. It's the material she has to sing. I wonder who wrote that awful song."
"I did," was the answer.
