The Moral of the Story |

English Original

A teacher assigned her class of 11-year-olds a task: to have a parent tell them a story with a moral.

The next day, the children returned and began sharing their stories.

Ashley said, "My father is a farmer. Once, we were taking eggs to market in a basket on the car's front seat. We hit a big bump, and all the eggs broke."

"What's the moral?" asked the teacher.

"Don't put all your eggs in one basket!"

"Very good," said the teacher.

Next, Brandon raised his hand. "My family are farmers too. We had a dozen eggs, but only ten chicks hatched. The moral is, 'Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.'"

"A fine story," said the teacher.

"Michael, do you have a story?"

"Yes. My dad told me about my Aunty Sharon. She was a flight engineer in the Gulf War. Her plane was hit, and she had to bail out over enemy territory with only a bottle of whiskey, a machine gun, and a machete. She drank the whiskey on the way down so it wouldn't break. She landed amidst 100 enemy troops.

She killed seventy with the machine gun until she ran out of bullets. She killed twenty more with the machete until the blade broke. Then she killed the last ten with her bare hands."

The horrified teacher exclaimed, "Good heavens! What moral did your father draw from that?"

"Stay away from Aunty Sharon when she's been drinking!"
