The Magpie's Dilemma |

English Original

Magpies are clever birds. At the beginning of every spring, they can predict the weather for the coming year.

If the year is forecast to be windy, they will move their nest from the high treetops to a lower crotch of a tree.

By doing so, they protect the nest from the threat of winds, but not from human threats. When adults pass by the nest, they often take the young birds. Even children can easily climb the tree and take the eggs. The magpie knows how to guard against future dangers but overlooks the imminent ones.
