The Tiger and the Cat |

English Original

In China, people believe that the tiger and the cat were once very close friends, and the cat was even much smarter than the tiger.

The cat learned physical skills quickly, while the tiger lagged behind. Gradually, the tiger had to learn from the cat, and the cat patiently taught him. Day after day, month after month, the tiger finally learned to run, jump, roll, grasp, tear, and strike as well as the cat.

One summer afternoon, the cat was napping while the tiger sat nearby. Looking at the cat, the tiger suddenly thought, "Why should I remain friends with such a small animal now that I've learned all its skills?" The wicked tiger decided to kill the sleeping cat as a snack before dinner. He stood up and approached the cat viciously. Just then, the cat woke up. Opening her eyes, the clever cat immediately realized the tiger's intention and swiftly leaped onto a nearby tall tree, climbing to the top branch.

The tiger thought he had learned every skill from the cat. He never knew the cat had hidden the skill of tree climbing from him.

"I kept this last technique from you because I suspected you might be an ungrateful friend," the cat called down to the tiger, who watched helplessly from below.
