English Original
A judge was instructing the jury that a witness should not be automatically considered untruthful simply because he changed his statement after giving it to the police.
"For example," he said, "when I entered my chambers today, I was certain my gold watch was in my pocket. But then I remembered I had left it on my nightstand."
That evening, the judge's wife asked him, "Why the urgency for your watch? Wasn't sending three men to fetch it a bit extreme?"
"What?" replied the judge. "I didn't send anyone, let alone three men. What did you do?"
"I gave it to the first man," said his wife. "He knew exactly where it was."
