There was once a poor woman who had two children. The youngest had to go into the forest every day to fetch wood.
Once, when she had gone a long way to seek it, a strange but strong little child came and helped her industriously to gather the wood and carry it home. Then, in a moment, the child vanished.
The girl told her mother, who at first did not believe her. Later, the child brought home a rose, saying the beautiful child had given it to her and promised to return when the rose was in full bloom. The mother placed the rose in water.
One morning, the girl could not rise from her bed. Her mother found her dead, yet she lay with a look of great happiness.
On that same morning, the rose bloomed fully.
