A woman wished to have her portrait painted, so her husband hired the finest artist he could find. During a sitting, the wife made an unusual request. She asked the artist to paint her wearing a diamond necklace, earrings, and a tiara, even though she wore no jewelry. The artist complied but was puzzled. As they viewed the finished portrait, he asked, "Why did we add the gems?"
The wife replied, "It's in case I die before my husband. I know he'd remarry right away. Let his new wife look for the jewels."
