A man was reading a newspaper at a table when his wife suddenly approached and hit him on the back. Surprised, the man asked, "Why did you hit me?"
The wife replied, "Who is Mary, mentioned in the letter in your pocket?"
The man explained, "That's the horse I bet on at the racetrack two weeks ago."
Three days later, the man was again sitting at the table. This time, his wife beat him even more angrily. "What are you hitting me for now?" he asked.
His wife answered, "Your horse called you on the telephone."
