A Kentucky teacher was quizzing her students. "Johnny, who signed the Declaration of Independence?"
He replied, "Damn if I know."
Annoyed by his language, she told him to go home and return with his father.
The next day, the father accompanied his son and sat at the back of the classroom to observe.
The teacher resumed her quiz and addressed Johnny again. "Now, Johnny, I'll ask you once more. Who signed the Declaration of Independence?"
"Well, hell, teacher," Johnny said, "I told you I didn't know."
At this, the father stood up abruptly, pointed a stern finger at his son, and declared, "Johnny, if you signed that damn thing, you'd better admit it!"
