Aping a Beauty |

English Original

Xi Shi, a famous beauty, once had a pain in her bosom. When she went out, she walked with her hands pressed to her chest and a frown on her face.

An ugly girl named Dong Shi, who lived nearby, saw Xi Shi and thought she looked very beautiful. When Dong Shi returned home, she imitated Xi Shi's posture, also pressing her hands to her bosom and frowning.

When a rich man in the neighborhood saw her, he shut his doors tightly and stayed inside. When a poor man saw her, he quickly took his wife and children and gave her a wide berth.

Dong Shi only knew that Xi Shi's frown looked beautiful, but she did not understand why it was beautiful.
