Cutting Flesh to Eat |

English Original

Two men lived at the eastern and western ends of the capital of the State of Qi, respectively. Both were fond of boasting about their bravery.

One day, they met by chance on the road and went to a tavern to drink together. After a few cups, one said, "We should have some meat to go with our wine!" The other replied, "You have plenty of flesh on your body, and so do I. Why look elsewhere?"

They both thought this made perfect sense. So they prepared the condiments, drew their knives, cut the flesh from their own bodies, and ate it. They continued until they both lay dead on the ground.
