Two Dollars | 两美元

English Original

Jim walked into a store with a sign that read: "Second-hand clothes bought and sold." He carried an old pair of pants and asked the owner, "How much will you give me for these?"

The man inspected them and replied rudely, "Two dollars."

"What!" exclaimed Jim. "I thought they were worth at least five."

"No," said the man. "They aren't worth a penny more than two dollars."

"Are you sure?" asked Jim.

"Very sure," the man insisted.

"Well," said Jim, pulling two dollars from his pocket. "Here's your money. These pants were hanging outside your store with a price tag of $6.50. I thought that was too high, so I wanted to confirm their real value."

With that, he walked out of the store with the pants, disappearing before the astonished owner could utter a word.
