The Cat and Venus | 猫与维纳斯

English Original

A cat fell in love with a handsome young man and entreated Venus to change her into a woman. Venus consented and transformed her into a beautiful maiden. The youth saw her, loved her, and took her home as his bride.

While the couple were resting in their chamber, Venus, wishing to discover if the cat's change of shape had also altered her habits, let a mouse loose in the middle of the room. The cat, quite forgetting her present condition, sprang from the couch and pursued the mouse, intending to eat it.

Venus was much disappointed and turned her back into her former shape.

Nature exceeds nurture.
