Going South by Driving North |

English Original

Once, a man wished to travel south, yet his carriage was heading north. A passerby inquired, "If you intend to go south, why is your chariot moving north?"

The man replied, "My horse is swift, my driver is highly skilled, and I have ample funds." He failed to consider that his direction was wrong. Consequently, the more favorable his conditions were, the farther he strayed from his destination.

This story gives rise to the idiom "Going South by Driving North," which signifies that one's actions produce the opposite of the intended effect.
