There was once a wonderful musician who, feeling lonely in the forest, decided to find a companion. He played his fiddle, and a wolf appeared, eager to learn. The musician tricked the wolf into placing its paws into a tree crevice and trapped them with a stone.
Later, feeling lonely again, he played once more. A fox approached, also wishing to learn. The musician led the fox to a path, tied its paws to two bent hazel bushes, and released them, leaving the fox dangling in the air.
Still seeking company, he played again and attracted a hare. The musician tied a string around the hare's neck and fastened the other end to an aspen tree. He ordered the hare to run around the tree twenty times, which wound the string tightly and trapped the creature.
Meanwhile, the wolf freed itself and, full of rage, went after the musician. It freed the fox, and together they rescued the hare. All three set out for revenge.
The musician continued his journey, playing his fiddle. This time, his music reached a poor woodcutter, who came to listen, enchanted. Seeing the angry animals approach, the woodcutter raised his axe to protect the musician. Frightened, the beasts fled back into the forest. Grateful, the musician played one more song for the woodcutter before moving on.
