Chapter 4
The next morning, Jesse and Mary Sue announced they had to leave to warn their father. After saying their goodbyes, Julia's mother stopped them and asked if they would take Julia along, calling it the biggest adventure she'd ever have. Julia thanked her mother, who in turn thanked Jesse and Mary Sue. Promising to return soon, the trio left Fairyland.
Julia was thrilled, having never ventured so far from home. Jesse and Mary Sue instructed her to hide upon reaching their house, which she agreed to do. Once there, Julia concealed herself behind a potted plant in the living room.
Meanwhile, Jesse and Mary Sue told their father about seeing their stepmother in Fairyland. Their father, finding the story hard to believe, welcomed them warmly but suggested they might be unwell and should rest.
"Dad! We're not sick; we really saw her!" they insisted.
"How could you?" he replied. "She was here with me the whole time you were gone. The only time she left was to get groceries."
"We don't understand. Where is she now?"
"She went to get groceries."
"Fairyland!" they exclaimed simultaneously. They dashed out the door, with Julia and their confused father following close behind, hoping to uncover the truth.
Upon arriving at the cave where they had seen their stepmother, she was nowhere to be found. Their father began to think it was all a joke. Just then, they saw her emerging from a secret passage within the cave.
The group of four returned to the fairies to inquire if they knew anything. All but one fairy denied any knowledge. That one fairy confessed he had been trying to investigate the matter himself.
Chapter 5
A door swung open. Mary Sue clutched Jesse's hand so tightly it turned red. The passageway resembled Fairyland but was devoid of fairies. Then, they spotted it: a massive golden door with a keyhole. Puzzled about where to find such a large key, they sat down to think.
They decided to return to Fairyland for help. However, as they uttered the magic password, they were spotted by someone unexpected—Alfred (or "Al"), the demon's companion. He seized them by the arms and forced them to accompany him, despite their struggles to break free.
Al brought them before the demon, who was lounging on a mattress, eating grapes and handing out his phone number to girls—a rather unimpressive sight. After stuffing a handful of grapes into his mouth, the demon spoke: "I thought you'd come. I saw you spying on me and that kind lady I was talking to."
"She's our stepmother, and she's not kind at all!" Jesse retorted.
"I never knew children could be so rude to someone who loves them," the demon sneered. "Take them away! I can't stand them any longer."
Jesse, Mary Sue, and their father were handcuffed to a shelf in a closet. Julia was locked in a cage in the corner, hidden from view by a hanging shirt.
"Maybe there's a secret spot where the demon hides a key to lock and unlock this door," Julia whispered.
"Good idea," Mary Sue agreed. Using her free hand, she began searching the wall for a loose board.
Night fell without success, and soon everyone fell asleep. In the morning, Mary Sue stretched and accidentally bumped the wall. "Hey, guys! I think I found something!"
A loose board gave way, revealing a large key hidden behind it. "This looks important," she said, pocketing the key. "I think I know what it's for. Let's go!"
Chapter 6
They returned to where they had last seen the demon. He was, once again, being fed grapes by his admirers.
"We know your plan, and we have the key you hid in our prison room!" they declared.
"But I have a spare," the demon laughed. "Did you really think I'd lock you in with the only key?"
While he boasted, Julia devised her own plan. She slipped behind him and knocked the spare key from his hand.
"Actually, I did think so," she said, catching the key. "Now that I have both keys, your plan is finished. We're off to save Fairyland!"
"Not so fast!" the demon yelled. "Did you think I'd fall for that?" Two towering demon guards emerged from the bushes.
The group fled as fast as they could, finding refuge in a cave. However, the guards soon sniffed them out and gave chase.
Spotting a waterfall, they took a deep breath and jumped—Julia, of course, flew. They surfaced to find themselves back at the giant golden door. As they inserted the key, the demon arrived, but they swung the door open and hurried inside just in time.
Suddenly, they knew what to do. They chanted the magic words, "Open passageway!" Then, they plucked a magical flower, placed it in a pot in the room's center, and watched as it transformed into a liquid. They poured the liquid onto the demon, his son, and the guards.
The transformation was immediate: the demon became a fairy prince, his son turned into a normal boy, and the guards shrank into mice. Their stepmother, freed from an evil spell, emerged as a kind woman and apologized for her past behavior. Everyone forgave her, and peace was restored.
