A grade school teacher asked her students about their parents' occupations. "Tim, you go first," she said. "What does your mother do?"
Tim stood up proudly. "She's a doctor."
"That's wonderful. How about you, Amy?"
Amy stood up shyly, scuffed her feet, and said, "My father is a mailman."
"Thank you, Amy," said the teacher. "What about your father, Billy?"
Billy stood up proudly and announced, "My daddy murders people, steals from them, and drinks."
The teacher was aghast and promptly changed the subject. Later, she visited Billy's home. His father answered the door. The teacher explained what Billy had said and asked for an explanation.
Billy's father replied, "I'm actually an attorney. But how can I explain that to a seven-year-old?"
