The Girl in the Pagoda |

English Original

A beautiful girl lived in Luoyang, where a very tall pagoda stood. One hot day, as she sat under a big tree, a sudden strong wind swept her into the sky.

Her family was heartbroken.

When the girl awoke, she found herself at the pagoda's summit, facing a young man. "Will you marry me?" he asked. "No, I want to go home," she refused. Angered, the young man declared, "Then you will stay in this pagoda."

He visited her daily, but her answer remained the same.

One day, looking out an open window, the girl saw the young man transform into a monster. Terrified, she later spotted a kind man below. "Help!" she cried, but he didn't hear. Desperate, she threw her clothes out the window. Seeing them, the man looked up, spotted the girl, and ran for help.

The next day, the villagers rushed to the pagoda. The girl's brother struck the monster, which then flew away into the sky. They rescued the girl. "I missed you so much," she told her brother. The village celebrated with song and dance for days.
