Our First Date |

English Original

The next day was our first date. He drove across town in midday traffic to get cleaned up, only to turn around and battle rush hour traffic to pick me up. By the time he arrived at my hotel, I was tired from a long day and ready to cancel. He arrived just as I was about to call it off.

We compromised and walked to a nearby mall for a light dinner while waiting for traffic to ease. I wish I could say the date was ideal, but we had an argument in a bookstore while reading our zodiac signs. However, by the time we left the store, we were laughing and holding hands.

That's why I agreed to see his childhood home across town. I didn't know he planned for me to meet his mother—thankfully, she was asleep. Could this date get any crazier? Yes, we argued again, this time over candy toppings for our frozen yogurt. We laughed through that "argument" too. That's when I knew he was special: strong yet tender.

By conventional standards, it wasn't a successful first date. But for us, it was perfect. Considering we got married just seven days later, it had to be special.

We've been married for over a year now, still laughing and arguing. Sometimes it feels like we've been together for fifty years. No matter how long we're together, I know it's the faith within him that keeps us united.
