English Original
In ancient times, there were no donkeys in Guizhou. Someone brought one from elsewhere and tied it to a tree at the foot of a mountain. A tiger saw the donkey and, mistaking it for a fearsome monster, hid behind a tree to watch it. When the donkey brayed, the tiger was terrified, thinking it was about to be devoured. After a while, seeing the donkey hadn't moved, the tiger cautiously approached and teased it. The donkey became angry and kicked the tiger. The tiger then thought, "Is that all it can do?" It promptly jumped on the donkey and ate it.
This idiom is used to describe a situation where someone has exhausted all their skills or tricks.
