Xue Tan studied singing under the celebrated singer Qin Qing. Before long, thinking he had mastered all his teacher's skills, he bid farewell and prepared to return home.
Qin Qing held a farewell dinner for him by the roadside outside the city. During the meal, Qin Qing sang a sorrowful farewell song to the rhythm of music. His voice was so magnificent, stirring, and penetrating that it seemed to halt the clouds in the sky.
Upon hearing this dulcet voice, unlike anything he had ever heard before, Xue Tan immediately apologized to his teacher. He pleaded to stay and continue his studies. From that day on, Xue Tan never again mentioned returning home.
